Voter guideHow to register to vote in Kenya (2027 general election)

How do I register to vote in Kenya?

Register in person at any IEBC constituency office or a designated registration centre, carrying your original Kenyan national ID card or valid Kenyan passport. You must be a Kenyan citizen aged 18 or older. Registration is free and your details are captured on the spot.

Who can register

  • Kenyan citizens aged 18 or older.
  • You need a valid Kenyan national ID card or a valid Kenyan passport.
  • You must be of sound mind and not otherwise disqualified by law.

How to do it

  1. 1

    Bring your original document

Your Kenyan national ID card or a valid Kenyan passport. The original, not a copy or a photo of it. That is the only document required.

  2. 2

Go to an IEBC office or registration centre

Any IEBC constituency office, or a designated centre during a registration exercise. Kenya uses continuous registration, so you do not have to wait for a mass drive to be announced. Confirm current centres on iebc.or.ke.

  3. 3

    Register in person

Your details are captured on the spot. Registration cannot be done for you by someone else.

  4. 4

    Verify afterwards

Before the election, confirm your registration and polling station through the official IEBC verification service. Registering and verifying are two separate steps.

It is free — always

Registering to vote in Kenya costs nothing, and it never has. There is no fee, no facilitation charge and no queue-jumping payment.

Anyone asking you for money to register you, or offering to register you on your behalf for a fee, is not acting for the IEBC. Report it rather than paying.
