The race today
- 872 people are listed as vying: President 21, Governor 114, Senator 44, Woman Representative 43, MP 478 and MCA 172.
- Aspirants are listed in 47 of 47 counties, for MP in 170 of 290 constituencies, and for MCA in 125 of 1,450 wards.
- 22,102,532 people were registered to vote in 2022, the most recent published register. Every place page on Baraza shows its own figure.
Why this list exists
The IEBC publishes the names of cleared candidates only weeks before polling day. Until then there is no official list of who is running, and coverage concentrates on the presidency and the big governor races. Baraza fills the gap from the ward up: a name is listed when a public source shows the person is running, and the source is shown beside it. Listings are community nominations, not an IEBC candidate list, and they say so on every page.
Story leads in the data
- The most crowded races. Every race page lists its aspirants with sources, so the busiest contests in a county can be compared in minutes. Start at the aspirants directory.
- The empty seats. Most wards have no declared MCA aspirant yet. Which seats nobody is contesting is a story in itself, especially where a sitting MCA has gone quiet.
- Sitting MPs moving up. Many MPs are running for governor or senator, which opens their seats. Each constituency page shows who holds the seat today and who wants it next.
- The size of every electorate. Registered voters for each county, constituency and ward are on the voters page, so any race can be put in proportion.
- The calendar. Party and IEBC deadlines from now to polling day are on the timeline.
