Voter guideHow to check if you are registered to vote in Kenya

How do I check if I am registered to vote?

Check your registration through the official IEBC verification service at iebc.or.ke. The IEBC opens verification windows before an election, and during those windows it also offers an SMS option. Confirming early matters: registering and being on the register at the right station are two different things.

Use the official channel only

Verify through iebc.or.ke. The IEBC announces the verification service and any SMS shortcode itself, ahead of each election.

Never enter your ID number into an unofficial website, a link forwarded on WhatsApp, or a form that asks for anything beyond what the IEBC asks for. Your ID number is worth protecting, and voter-verification pages are an easy thing to fake.

What you are checking

  • That you appear on the register at all.
  • Which polling station you are assigned to — this is where you must vote on the day.
  • That your details are correct, so nothing delays you at the station.

If something is wrong

During the IEBC’s registration and transfer windows you can update your details or move to a different polling station at an IEBC office. The exact windows are announced by the IEBC ahead of each election.

Do not leave it until election week. Transfers and corrections close before the vote.

Related questions

How do I check if I am already registered?

Can I transfer my polling station or update my details?
Yes. During the IEBC’s registration and transfer windows you can update your details or transfer to a new polling station at an IEBC office. The exact windows are announced by the IEBC ahead of each election.

Now find who is on your ballot

Registering is the first half. Knowing who you are choosing between is the other.

Baraza is independent and not the IEBC. For registration deadlines, verification and anything gazetted for a specific election, the official source is iebc.or.ke.
