Ten months before polling day on 10 August 2027, there is still no official list of who is running. The IEBC publishes cleared candidates only in June 2027. Until then, Baraza lists a person as vying when a public source shows it, and shows that source beside the name.
The count so far
As of 16 October 2026, 775 people are listed on Baraza: 21 for President, 106 for Governor, 41 for Senator, 38 for Woman Representative, 452 for Member of Parliament and 117 for MCA. They come from 46 of the 47 counties.
Most of the early activity is in parliamentary races. Aspirants are listed for MP in 161 of the 290 constituencies. Ward races are only starting to show: 74 of the 1,450 wards have an MCA aspirant listed so far.
The crowded races
The presidency has drawn 21 names. Below it, the busiest race on Baraza is Laikipia West, with 14 people listed for MP. Kiminini in Trans Nzoia has 11 MP aspirants, and Nairobi has 11 for Woman Representative and 10 for Governor. Narok North has 10 MP aspirants.
Ward races can be just as crowded. Bukembe East and Khalaba, two wards in Kanduyi, Bungoma, have 11 MCA aspirants each.
Seats opening up
Many sitting MPs are aiming higher. In Bungoma, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa is running for Governor and has endorsed Patrick Wandili to succeed him. In West Pokot, Pokot South MP David Pkosing is one of three people bidding for Governor, alongside former governor John Lonyang’apuo and former senator Samuel Poghisio. Every seat a sitting MP leaves is a seat with no incumbent in 2027.
The dates that come next
Political parties had until 15 October to give the IEBC the names of the officials authorised to sign off their candidates. Party nomination rules must be certified by the Registrar of Political Parties by 30 October and lodged with the IEBC by 6 November. Those rules decide how each party will pick its candidates, so anyone planning to run on a party ticket should get a copy now.
Find your own ballot
Every county, constituency and ward has its own page on Baraza, listing who is vying for each seat, who holds it today, and how many voters were registered there in 2022. Search for your ward at baraza.or.ke and see all six races on your ballot. If someone is running and is not listed, you can nominate them, with a source, at baraza.or.ke/nominate.
